JuJus and Gris Gris

(1) What are Jujus & Gris Gris?  Can a Juju or Gris Gris bag be made to assist me in the areas of my life that are filled with negativity? For instance Love, Prosperity, Finances and wanting my children to be prosperous?

In New Orleans, a "juju" is an object which protects a person or place
from negativity and evil. It is usually made from something which was once
alive, such as a tree (made into a carved mask, totem pole, used in a doll,
etc.), gator head, etc. Jujus can be hung above the door to a home or
business, or placed on an altar or anywhere in the home
that needs protection.

"Gris gris" has come to mean many things. It is said to have come from the
French word for gray (gris), meaning that the mixture of black & white
creates a balance. In New Orleans, the term is mainly used to apply to gris
gris bags (also known as mojo bags). These bags are normally made of red
flannel and filled with herbs, roots and other powerful magickal,
purpose-appropriate ingredients. They are tied up with black yarn and
anointed with the appropriate potion oil for their purpose.  The finished bag
should be carried or worn by its recipient.  Many say that a woman should
keep hers on her left side and a man, on his right.  Also, that a person
should never open their bag or let others touch it.  The theory being that
the energy will "spill out" if the bag is opened and that the wrong
influences may be placed in the bag by someone else touching it.

The bag is a focusing tool, made to assist the recipient of it in bringing certain
specific positive influences his/her way and should be meditated with
regularly.  It should also be reanointed with the appropriate potion oil from
time to time.  Gris Gris bags are made by our practitioners for any positive
purpose our clients may need assistance with, including the ones you listed.

(2) Could you please recommend something to hang in the home for good luck and prosperity?

If you go to the doll section of our site, you'll see the "Broom Doll" which is great to hang in the home for good luck. We also custom make gris gris bags specifically made for you for any purpose, including luck and prosperity. There are really so many things to choose from! A horseshoe turned with the open part up, hung over the door is another generations old "magickal decor piece" specifically for good luck. An elephant statue, especially a green one, with it's trunk up and placed so the trunk faces the front door is another time-honored tradition to bring good luck & protection.

(3) What is the purpose of red brick dust?
It is an old New Orleans tradition to “clean” your front steps with red brick dust (red dust) to protect the entrance to your home. This will keep bad energy and negative people away and out of your house! Locals have been passing this tradition on to their kin for generations.
